Philip Solomonick was born in Los Angeles, California. After moving to Israel, he began studying piano at a very early age with Luisa Yoffe. His fascination and dedication led him and his teacher to embark on concert tours and competitions both at home and abroad. Already at 11 years old, he performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto with orchestra in St. Petersburg, Russia. A year later he played Mozart’s Piano Concerto no.12 in France with the Orchestra de Chambre les Solistes d’Europe. Soon after, more performances with orchestra followed in Israel and solo performances were broadcast on the Israeli radio.

During his teenage years, he performed in concert halls throughout Israel, and repeatedly won the prestigious AICF bi-annual scholarships. He also participated in many chamber music collaborations such as the Apple Hill Chamber Players’ initiative - Playing For Peace, and in the program for “Excelling Young Musicians” at the Jerusalem Music Center.

During this time, he earned many prizes in competitions; most notably

the 1st prize in the Chopin Competition in Tel Aviv, and the 1st prize in the Pnina Salzman Competition.

Mr. Solomonick received his first two degrees in Piano Performance at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, under the distinguished pianist Irina Berkovich. Professor Berkovich, a student of Yakov Flier, passed to her student the essence of Russian pianism and culture. This led him to win the 1st prize in the Haim Kalmi Competition, and the 1st prize in the Sharon Tabor-Pintz Concerto Competition, and as a result Mr. Solomonick was awarded the Dean’s prize at the Jerusalem Academy. During this period, he gave many concerts, and solo recitals were broadcast live on the Israeli radio. Organizers from important venues such as the Jerusalem Cinémathèque, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Moscow State Conservatory, invited the young pianist to give solo recitals. Overall, his engagements as soloist with orchestra included concerti by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff working with conductors such as Gerardo Edelstein, Dean Whiteside, Kenneth Kiesler, and Omer Meir-Wellber.

While pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of Michigan School of Music in the studio of Prof. Arthur Greene, Mr. Solomonick became a semi-finalist at the NYCA Worldwide Debut Audition, Dallas International Competition, International Keyboard Oddysiad, and a finalist at the American International Piano Festival & Competition, in Washington DC.

In the Summer of 2022 he completed a DMA in piano performance as well as a graduate certificate in teaching music theory. He regularly records a large number of piano works (which is available of his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@philipsolomonick) and greatly enjoys actively performing in his community in Amherst Massachusetts where he currently resides with his wife, who is also an internationally recognized pianist. He served as a faculty at Point CounterPoint, a frequent guest at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, and is currently a Resident Artist teaching at the University of New Hampshire.
